SCRIPTURE: Mark 4:2-3
2 He taught them many things by parables, and in his teaching said:
3‘Listen! A farmer went out to sow his seed.
OBSERVATION:
A parable is an earthly story with a heavenly meaning. A story that the intended audience can relate with and a principle that can benefit their growth. When Jesus taught, He didn’t use a social system to illustrate truth, He used an agriculture system. Why? His audience could understand that concept simply because they were living in that type of environment. Look around and all you see is land, dirt, seed, harvest, cultivating, and so forth. Another reason: that type of system is how life actually works. Call it the Law of the Farm. If you want results, you can take shortcuts. You cannot cram for a harvest like some cram for test. In our culture, we get most of what we want immediately. Click a button on Amazon, its here next day or same day. Microwave your rice in 2-3 minutes. Instant gratification is written throughout scripture and is to be cautioned against. You want something that will last, submit to the process of the Law of the Farm. First the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear. – Mk 4:28
Listen! reinforces the idea to “PAY ATTENTION” to what i’m about to say. He was trying to max out His impact thats why He got out on a boat so that He could reach as many hearers as possible. This would be His first parable and later mentions that if you understand this parable, its the key to understanding the rest that would come. It would become a principle for life!
I can hear his heart, “I’m about to sow something into your ears that can change the trajectory of your future! Pay Attention!” You have the possibility to reap a different harvest that you been accustomed to. Your frustrated with where your at? Let me explain why.
It’s so easy to adopt the rhythm of culture and go at it’s pace. The speed of a seed is much slower than the norm. If I understand the pace of the Spirit, I will reap the spiritual benefits of the original blueprint that’s intended within its seed. I love harvest! What I am learning to love more is the patience and grace I need to give myself so I don’t skip the process.
APPLICATION
I submit to the process of the Law of the Farm. I’ll choose to be more patient with myself and give others the same grace God has given me. It’s easier to take a short cut to get to the destination but after I arrive, there is a conscience that has been compromised and if Im honest with myself and desire to live in truth…I have to do it again…submitting to the Law of the Farm!
PRAYER
Master, help me to be patient with myself this week. Thank you for understanding and reminding me that doing it right, and loving it even when I don’t see immediate results is part of the growth. I understand that if I don’t see the results I am looking for outwardly, I can still have faith the You are working deep inwardly. The outer casing of Your seed must die deep within before the sprouting can begin. You are so amazing and I love you for that sir. I’m trusting.
