Why Wait Till Tomorrow When You Can Do It Today?

In Exodus 8, God sends a plague of frogs on Egypt because Pharaoh has refused to let Israel go. The frogs were everywhere – in the people’s paths, their beds, their homes, their food, and their water. When Pharaoh demands for Moses to pray to God to take away this horrible plague, Moses said to Pharaoh, “I leave to you the honor of setting the time for me to pray for you and your officials and your people that you and your houses may be rid of the frogs, except for those that remain in the Nile.”
Tomorrow,” Pharaoh said. – Exodus 8:9-10a

Who decides to spend one more night with a plague of frogs when they can be delivered from them today?

Pharaoh?…yes, as well as everyone reading this post…including myself!

C’mon, you and I know this is true. Be honest with yourself. I know what I’m suppose to do or stop doing yet so often I find myself waking up asking for forgiveness and today I begin with a fresh commitment only to find myself here again sooner than later. I find this so frustrating in my life and yet i know and understand the following passage that reads:

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. Galatians 5:1

We are all ONE DECISION away from making our future better. Even though our Future Self values long term rewards, our Present Self absolutely loves immediate gratification. Long term payoff in our brain is…well… too long and far away. So what do we DO?

There are various ways to make adjustments but today, why dont we try this: Find a way to move future rewards and punishments into the present moment. Make the future consequences become present consequences.

One of the best ways to bring future rewards into the present moment is with a strategy known as temptation bundling. Temptation bundling is a concept that came out of behavioral economics research performed by Katy Milkman at The University of Pennsylvania. Simply put, the strategy suggests that you bundle a behavior that is good for you in the long-run with a behavior that feels good in the short-run.

Here are a few common examples of temptation bundling:

  • Only listen to audio books or podcasts you love while exercising.
  • Only get a pedicure while processing overdue work emails.
  • Only watch your favorite show while ironing or doing household chores.
  • Only eat at your favorite restaurant when conducting your monthly meeting with a difficult colleague.

This article covers some specific exercises you can follow to figure out how to create temptation bundling ideas that work for you.

The other way is what i call the “old school” way of doing things. “SUCK IT UP” and get to work. Be responsible and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery…

EVERYDAY, MAKE A DECISION AGAINST YOURSELF. As the Apostle Paul says, “Everything is permissible, but not everything is beneficial.” 1 Cor. 10:23

FREEDOM motivates me! I want to be free, feel free, think free, and exert freedom into every conversation i have with people. Even more, the freedom that comes in Christ is so absolutely addicting that I cant stand feeling controlled or heavy burdened. The passage above indicates that we have control of this action. SO i leave you with the same statement Moses left Pharaoh:

“I leave to you the honor of setting the time for me to pray for you and your officials and your people that you and your houses may be rid of the frogs, except for those that remain in the Nile.”

33 YEARS

If I was able to go back in time to the moment I had the opportunity to choose you, I would choose you over and over again…without pause, without doubt, in a heartbeat. I’ll keep choosing you for the remainder of my life on this earth.

Sadness is never an EXCUSE.

I was listening to my feelings and began getting more discouraged and sad…even mad as I kept feeding on how I wish it would be different and how much longer would it take and why was I dealt this hand and so forth. Easy to get caught up in the realm of your emotions but the truth is that feelings are sketchy and are not reality. I can "feel" hopeless but that doesn't mean I am. So recently, I have been doing something that is helping me stay out of the rut of sadness, discouragement, or even depression. It's call STOP. STOP stand a for the following:
S – Stop what your doing
T – Take 2 deep breaths
O – Observe (I choose to observe Isaiah 41:10 "fear not, be not dismayed, I am your God. I will help you. I will strengthen you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand"
P – Proceed. If I sense I can move forward I do; if not, I go back to Take a deep breath.

Just a little nugget I learned for a dear friend in the faith and it works for me. But here is the reality. Look at scripture. It's even a better reminder of something similar.

1 Peter 1:8 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy,

Peter is very clear. Our faith in Christ…what's He has done, is doing, is going to do has a far greater impact in your now moment. In other words FAITH TRUMPS FEELINGS every time!

Jesus said it this way in John 16.

This new life in the world wipes out memory of the pain. The sadness you have right now is similar to that pain, but the coming joy is also similar. When I see you again, you'll be full of joy, and it will be a joy no one can rob from you.

NEW LIFE WIPES OUT PRESENT PAIN. It's a JOY no one can ROB from you! YOU HAVE TO GIVE IT UP IN ORDER TO LOSE IT.

Is this an easy way to live…as politely as I can, "hell no" but it's a HOLY way to live!

AREN'T YOU TIRED OF ALLOWING A THIEF TO COME IN TO ROB YOU OF YOUR JOY? The thief usually comes through the medium of those you love the most and that's unfortunate, just ask Jesus and you will see this truth. It won't be any different with you so here's my final thought.

YOUR SADNESS IS NEVER AN EXCUSE! Life in Christ …FAITH TRUMPS FEELINGS!

Trust Him,

DAILY PRAYER

Just thought I would share a great prayer to begin your day and your week. (excerpt from John Eldridge)

My dear Lord Jesus, I come to you now to be restored in you, renewed in you, to receive your life and your love and all the grace and mercy I so desperately need this day. I honor you as my Lord, and I surrender every aspect and dimension of my life to you. I give you my spirit, soul, and body, my heart, mind, and will. I cover myself with your blood—my spirit, soul, and body, my heart, mind, and will. I ask your Holy Spirit to restore me in you, renew me in you, and lead this time of prayer. In all that I now pray, I stand in total agreement with your Spirit and with all those praying for me by the Spirit of God and by the Spirit of God alone.

Dearest God, holy and victorious Trinity, you alone are worthy of all my worship, my heart’s devotion, all my praise, all my trust, and all the glory of my life. I love you, I worship you, I give myself over to you in my heart’s search for life. You alone are Life, and you have become my life. I renounce all other gods, every idol, and I give to you, God, the place in my heart and in my life that you truly deserve. This is all about you, and not about me. You are the Hero of this story, and I belong to you. I ask your forgiveness for my every sin. Search me, know me, and reveal to me where you are working in my life, and grant to me the grace of your healing and deliverance and a deep and true repentance.

Heavenly Father, thank you for loving me and choosing me before you made the world. You are my true Father—my creator, redeemer, sustainer, and the true end of all things, including my life. I love you, I trust you, I worship you. I give myself over to you, Father, to be one with you as Jesus is one with you. Thank you for proving your love for me by sending Jesus. I receive him and all his life and all his work which you ordained for me. Thank you for including me in Christ, forgiving me my sins, granting me his righteousness, making me complete in him. Thank you for making me alive with Christ, raising me with him, seating me with him at your right hand, establishing me in his authority, and anointing me with your love and your Spirit and your favor. I receive it all with thanks and give it total claim to my life—my spirit, soul, and body, my heart, mind, and will.

Jesus, thank you for coming to ransom me with your own life. I love you, worship you, trust you. I give myself over to you to be one with you in all things. I receive all the work and triumph of your cross, death, blood, and sacrifice for me, through which my every sin is atoned for, I am ransomed, delivered from the kingdom of darkness, and transferred to your kingdom; my sin nature is removed, my heart circumcised unto God, and every claim being made against me is cancelled and disarmed. I take my place now in your cross and death, dying with you to sin, to my flesh, to this world, to the evil one and his kingdom. I take up the cross and crucify my flesh with all its pride, arrogance, unbelief, and idolatry [and anything else you are currently struggling with]. I put off the old man. Apply to me all the work and triumph in your cross, death, blood, and sacrifice; I receive it with thanks and give it total claim to my spirit, soul, and body, my heart, mind, and will.

Jesus, I also receive you as my Life, and I receive all the work and triumph in your resurrection, through which you have conquered sin, death, judgment, and the evil one. Death has no power over you, nor does any foul thing. And I have been raised with you to a new life, to live your life—dead to sin and alive to God. I take my place now in your resurrection and in your life, and I give my life to you to live your life. I am saved by your life. I reign in life through your life. I receive your hope, love, faith, joy, your goodness, trueness, wisdom, power, and strength. Apply to me all the work and triumph in your resurrection; I receive it with thanks, and I give it total claim to my spirit, soul, and body, my heart, mind, and will.

Jesus, I also sincerely receive you as my authority, rule, and dominion, my everlasting victory against Satan and his kingdom, and my ability to bring your Kingdom at all times and in every way. I receive all the work and triumph in your ascension, through which Satan has been judged and cast down, and all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to you. All authority in the heavens and on this earth has been given to you, Jesus, and you are worthy to receive all glory and honor, power and dominion, now and forever. I take my place now in your authority and in your throne, through which I have been raised with you to the right hand of the Father and established in your authority. I give myself to you, to reign with you always. Apply to me all the work and triumph in your authority and your throne; I receive it with thanks and I give it total claim to my spirit, soul, and body, my heart, mind, and will.

I now bring the authority, rule, and dominion of the Lord Jesus Christ and the full work of Christ over my life today: over my home, my household, my work, over all my kingdom and domain. I bring the authority of the Lord Jesus Christ and the full work of Christ against every evil power coming against me—against every foul spirit, every foul power and device. [You might need to name them—what has been attacking you?] I cut them off in the name of the Lord; I bind and banish them from me and from my kingdom now, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. I also bring the full work of Christ between me and every person, and I allow only the love of God and only the Spirit of God between us.

Holy Spirit, thank you for coming. I love you, I worship you, I trust you. I receive all the work and triumph in Pentecost, through which you have come, you have clothed me with power from on high, sealed me in Christ, become my union with the Father and the Son, the Spirit of truth in me, the life of God in me, my counselor, comforter, strength, and guide. I honor you as Lord, and I fully give to you every aspect and dimension of my spirit, soul, and body, my heart, mind, and will—to be filled with you, to walk in step with you in all things. Fill me afresh, Holy Spirit. Restore my union with the Father and the Son. Lead me into all truth, anoint me for all of my life and walk and calling, and lead me deeper into Jesus today. I receive you with thanks, and I give you total claim to my life.

Heavenly Father, thank you for granting to me every spiritual blessing in Christ Jesus. I claim the riches in Christ Jesus over my life today. I bring the blood of Christ once more over my spirit, soul, and body, over my heart, mind, and will. I put on the full armor of God: the belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness, shoes of the gospel, helmet of salvation; I take up the shield of faith and sword of the Spirit, and I choose to be strong in the Lord and in the strength of your might, to pray at all times in the Spirit.

Jesus, thank you for your angels. I summon them in the name of Jesus Christ and instruct them to destroy all that is raised against me, to establish your Kingdom over me, to guard me day and night. I ask you to send forth your Spirit to raise up prayer and intercession for me. I now call forth the kingdom of God throughout my home, my household, my kingdom, and domain in the authority of the Lord Jesus Christ, giving all glory and honor and thanks to him. In Jesus’ name, amen.

THE NAME OF THE LORD (to be cont…)

In 2017, we began the year with a series, “THE ACCEPTABLE YEAR OF THE LORD” taken from Is. 61 as well as Luke 4. As we continue to speak on the various names of our Lord, I find myself being encouraged so much! For instance, here’s what we have looked at thus far:

Elohim (God) – He is God, there in none other. “in the beginning…God” – Gen 1:1; that’s it! Why complicate life when its so simple. He’s got this cause HE IS GOD! It begins and ends with Him. How you begin matters….more importantly WHO you begin with is vital! If your pursuits do not welcome and invite God in the beginning….then its a matter of time, but it will fail simply because when He is not in it….it’s void of sustainable power and life. Yahweh (Lord, Jehovah) – His proper name. Too holy to utter yet so personal. He has chosen to reveal His name to us. To us, He is pleased with revealing to us the secrets of His kingdom.

El Elyon (The Most High God) – Higher than any drug, any addiction, affliction, religion, any betrayal, hurt, hiccup, or hang up. HE IS MOST HIGH GOD

Adonai (Lord, Master) – If we surrender; He will Master your SOUL, your SINUSES and your SLEEP.

El Shaddai (Lord God Almighty)

El Olam (The Everlasting God)

Jehovah Jireh (The Lord Will Provide)

Jehovah Rapha (The Lord Who Heals You)

Jehovah Nissi (The Lord Is My Banner)

It All Began Here!

“As you pray, more light will come”

It all began here. 1990, Natalie and I moved to Broken Arrow, OK. to attend bible school. I was a part of a prayer group where we would get up early and attend Prayer and Healing Center to pray over the request given us. I entered the center and received my request and went into this little 12×10 empty room with chairs around the edges. No one was present but me…physically anyway. I knelt down in the corner facing the wall and began to pray…then suddenly…

He came. The Spirit of God came and invaded that moment. Simple vision: a dark cloud so black nothing could penetrate it…Until I began to pray. As I prayed a beam of light pierced through the darkness and the darkness could not comprehend it. It tried to distinguish its beam but to no avail. Then I heard, “As you pray, more light will come.” Just like a good little catholic boy, I obeyed the voice and prayed more. Sure enough, just as He said, more light came”

Just like a Hollywood scene, the camera began to zoom out of the dark cloud and I noticed it was over a geographical area but it was not clear yet. So I prayed the more. More light came and it began to get clear. I realized I was praying over the city of Seguin and the location was Central Park, where I grew up.

In my spirit, I knew that it was a privilege of mine to pray for this city and to hold it close to my heart simply because the Creator had it close to His heart and wanted His Light to penetrate this area. Little did I know that 25 years later, He would ask me to plant a church there.

Natalie and I received a mandate to began Crossroads in late 2006, after a time of fasting and prayer in Mason, Tx. As we stepped out in faith, the first place I came to begin Crossroads was where it all began…Central Park in Seguin, Tx. We prayed and believed God would honor His Word which He always does. Last night at Central Park during our Candlelight service was even more confirmation.

Honestly, this all began in the heart of God, before any of us could have imagined. He has a plan and purpose in this community and I endeavor to be a part it. He also has a specific purpose for you as well. Obedience is a must.

Join us and be a part of an exciting time here in Seguin. Pray and see the light continue to get brighter and brighter!

Sola Fide,
Pastor Marcus
